Hi Everyone,

This week, students began studying new debate topics in reading.  Some groups are studying whether or not plastic bottles should be banned, others are studying whether or not people should be allowed to climb Mount Everest, and lastly, a group is studying whether or not we should protect humans from sharks or sharks from humans.

In Writing, we are finishing up our first set of argumentative essays.  Students debated whether or not they thought the American Revolution was justified!

In Science, we are learning about why the sun "rises and sets" as well as how to tell time with shadow clocks.  We used models to explore these concepts in class.  We used a "sky viewer" to demonstrate how the earth spins on its axis, making the sun appear to move across the sky.  We made shadow clocks to demonstrate how the suns position in the sky, along with the shadows it casts, can help to determine time!
